TUNES

I heard this song drunk at a bar and now I'm 100% into it.

J. Cole can't really rap, but I love the melodies in this song.

Pretty sure it's only a matter of hours before Ty buys this 12 inch on ebay

"You must be losing your mind."

Gonna have to back this one too.

Palace is a new Euro skateboard company that's been doing everything right, so far.

Check this clip. They're shooting on vhs, having some weird but not too weird shit going on, skating New York, Waka and that Keith Nut song from the old Zoo video on the soundtrack. They also kind of got their own thing going on, which is really rare.

GOOD

You can't really fuck with these guys. They're too good!

Shirley Goodman, almost 20 years later, would record one of the goodest records ever.

Check out the record cover where cartoon Shirley is shaming the fuck out of Nixon.

Shame Shame Shame became really popular and was #12 on the Billboard charts.

Could her and her friend Sylvia make another hit? Well they tried. They had this idea where if they slowed down their hit song and changed the lyrics, no one would notice and it would be just as big.

Sylvia (Who helped write and produce Shame Shame Shame and unfortunately that other song too) was also in pretty much the same type of band that Shirley was in 20 years before.

Instead of being called Shirley and Lee they were called Mickey and Sylvia. They had this super hit...

I wonder if they have the same birthday.

[By the way, note the awesome juggalo art in the last video.]

WANT IT

About a week ago, I was at Alligator Lounge enjoying my free pizza with a couple friends. I was keeping my eye on both their TVs, switching my attention between Broken Arrow and a Cutlery Corner Info-thon. That is, until Cutlery Corner really stole the show. Do you see this thing?

IT'S A FUCKING NINJA MEDALLION WITH IT'S OWN FUCKING KNIFE YOU COULD CUT SOMEONES THROAT WITH!!!!

After a short deliberation I was ready to buy this thing. I figured I would drop 10 bucks on it. Sort of disappointed I found out it wasn't sold individually and you had to buy a whole set of necklace knives to get it.

Then I found out you get 5 for $20 bucks!!!

I'd get my necklace AND I'd have Mothers Day covered for the next 4 years.

Unfortunately though, this story has a sad ending. Because I didn't realize how technology can bring so many people with such remarkable taste together, I waited 5 days to order it and it's sold out. A tough blow to not just me, but to my friends as well. Who will never get to know the joy of seeing me threaten them with a 3 inch long knife at 2am, most likely outside of Minor Arcana.

Tuesday, August 16, 2011

WHAT?

“I hope that one day I get to come back home because I do live in this area, I still consider this my area, I still consider myself a Knick. Hopefully one day I’ll be brought back here.”

The Knicks should offer Ewing a $500,000 to sit on the bench and be assistant coach(Which I think he's doing for the Magic right now.) Last season they payed Jared Jeffries $250,000 to get two rebounds a game. I'd rather Patrick be there and say things like "Be tall, strong and really athletic like I was. That'll get us a win."

Or not.

CLASSIC

The album of the year came out today. You don't want to be the last person wondering what that "LANE CHANGIN, CHAIN SWINGIN" song is coming out of everybody's car on Franklin Avenue, so you better get it.

PHASE ALERT

Skeeter Davis was from Kentucky. She was in a Country Group called the Davis Sisters. After a car crash killed her singing partner she tried to keep the group going but went solo a few years later. She turned down the country element, went pop and had a dozen hits or so. Lots of songs about heartbreak, the summertime, and heartbreak during the summertime.

If you're going to be in a car with me with in the next month you best believe I'm gonna have a Skeeter mix CD on me.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW...

...with the Black Lips.

Matt: My neighbor knows those Oddfuture kids and they totally use twitter to get laid all the time. You guys are pretty successful, are you guys getting twitter buns?

Cole: Not really. We have groupies but they just show up to our shows.

Matt: You think it's more of a young rapper thing and rockers can't get it on on twitter?

Cole: I don't know. We're doing alright, but they sell a lot more records than we do.

GOOD OLD DAYS

Check out my High School hardcore band if you want. Dan and I called ourselves POWERBOMB. Kind of a joke about how sometimes suburban hardcore guys try to be all tough and just end up acting like jocks that don't get laid. Kind of not though either.

We didn't play shows or anything. We just drank Pepsi at my Mom's house and tried to keep it down the best we could.

Things started off pretty straight foward...

...but then we got weird really fast.

LOOK

You see this crazy shit they got in Arizona? It's fucking Jurassic sand stone carved by the wind over the last 190 MILLION years.

You need to get a permit to go here from the Bureau of Land Management, and they only let in 20 people a day. The first 10 are for people who applied 4 months in advance and the other 10, are for people who get there day of. Obviously more than 10 people apply for either and people are chosen through a lottery. Which I'm sure to an extent, must mean they use a "Who's going to give me 50 bucks?" system.

However, because the world is totally fucking nuts they have one in Australia too that is way more lax on tourism. Probably because it's only 27 million years old. Yawn.
