BEST BAND

JUST FOUND THESE ON YOUTUBE!!!

Did I post this yet? I can't remember.

I think the audience of this website is familiar with this, but i got to put it in to make the post complete.

'15 VIBES

My boy Eugene introduced me to William Onyeabor the other night. His stuff is pretty wild. And damn these songs are LOOOONNNNGGG!!!

Although he challenges my attention span there's still something to it.

Onyeabor is from Nigeria. He has always avoided interviews and not much is known about him. He even claims to have never played live. He put out 8 records between '77 and '85 and then quit music to spend more time going to church and taking care of business.

His business ventures have done well since his music career. In Enugu, Nigeria he's got his own flour mill, gas station and internet cafe. Our guy is makin' money and lives in a sick mansion!!!

David Byrne recently reissued his records causing the resale of original pressings to sky rocket. One of his records (Body & Soul) goes for $650 online. I hope he kept a couple copies.

UNDER THE RADAR

I was trying to get my blurb on for these Paulette Williams jams but there's no information about her on the Internet.

She's from Jamaica and has some songs on some Trojan Records Comps. That's all I got.

LOLZ

I loved this movie. It has a 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Filmed mostly on E11th St.

NEW TO ME

The Lijadu Sisters are identical twins from Nigeria. They were mostly active between 1969 - 1979. They combined Soul, Disco, Psych and whatever wacky African shit they were into. I'm not gonna pretend I know what that stuff is.

In Nigeria at the time most songs were about Allah and folk lore that was even older than the Quran. They messed up peoples shit by writing songs about love, dancing and occasionally about how they didn't like what was going on in their neighborhood... and also just by being female entertainers, which wasn't really a thing there yet.

In 1972 they played the Olympics in Munich. In '76 they got a deal with Decca. One deals where you're set up to owe the label money for the rest of your life. Not too classy for a company that's put out every big British act from The Stones to Morrissey.

In 1984 a compilation of outtakes ironically got them exposure in the US and they moved to, you guessed it, Brooklyn. The New York Times called them "a West African parallel to the Pointer Sisters" which is the most New York Times thing ever. Does this really sound like 'I'm So Excited' to you, you deaf fuck? I'm going to post some Lijadu Sisters and I'll put throw in a Pointer Sisters song too. Lets see if you can tell the difference.

GOOD JOB

Love these new Bucks uniforms. I think I'll be jumping on the bandwagon as soon as it stops by. I 'think' that is. Around this time last year I thought I was gonna be a big Hornets fan. "LANCE IS THE MISSING PIECE."

Speaking of Lance and new uniforms, have you seen what the Clippers are doing?

Yikes!

INTERMISSION

I'm gonna post some more Puerto Rico stuff but I got to take a moment to address GMK!!!

Sick vid. 400th post.
